Some days settle into your memory so completely that years later you can still feel the warmth of the air, hear the music drifting across the lawn, and picture every face in the room. Kathleen and Patrick's wedding in Hanover, Jamaica, was one of those days — a celebration that moved from a sunlit church to the lush clifftop grounds of Round Hill with so much joy, so much laughter, and so much love that it was impossible to stand in the middle of it all and not feel completely moved. We are so grateful to have been there to capture every single moment, and we cannot wait to share it all with you.
The day began at Round Hill resort, and from the very first frame it was clear this was going to be something special. Round Hill's private villas are among the most beautiful getting-ready spaces in all of Jamaica — airy, light-filled rooms with cathedral ceilings, mahogany accents, canopied beds draped in gauzy white fabric, and wide verandas overlooking the Caribbean. The setting alone makes for extraordinary photographs, and Kathleen and her people made the absolute most of it.
One of our favorite images from the morning shows Kathleen standing in the center of her villa suite, radiant in her stunning gown — a sleek, figure-hugging halter-neck design with a beautifully structured bow at the waist — while her bridesmaids and family fussed and fawned around her, adjusting her train and dress with pure delight on their faces. The shot captures that beautiful chaos of the final getting-ready moments, everyone working in happy unison while Kathleen stood tall and glowing in the middle of it all. It is the kind of photograph that will make her smile every single time she sees it for the rest of her life.
The bridesmaids looked absolutely gorgeous in their mismatched powder blue gowns — each in a different silhouette but all in that same soft, dreamy shade that complemented Round Hill's tropical surroundings perfectly. From strapless to off-the-shoulder to spaghetti strap, the varying styles added movement and personality to every group shot, and the palette worked beautifully against the lush green of the resort's gardens.
Meanwhile, Patrick and his groomsmen were getting suited up with their own particular brand of morning energy — and we have to take a moment to highlight the socks. Matching navy blue socks printed with golden pineapples, worn with everything from rich brown leather brogues to woven cream dress shoes — it was the kind of playful, personality-filled detail that says everything you need to know about this group. Fun, stylish, and not taking themselves too seriously. We are here for it.
Patrick's getting-ready moments had their own quiet emotional weight. One black-and-white photograph captured him seated at a desk, suit jacket on, reading a handwritten letter from Kathleen — his name written on the envelope in her handwriting, his face lit up with a smile so wide it practically filled the frame. It is a photograph that speaks volumes without a single word.
Before the ceremony, Kathleen shared two of the most beautiful first-look moments of the entire day — and both of them were everything.
The first was with her father. Standing on the villa veranda, Kathleen approached him from behind, placed her hand gently on his shoulder, and waited. When he turned and saw her — his daughter, his little girl, standing there in her wedding gown — the expression on his face was everything. The photograph captures him mid-reaction, his expression a perfect mixture of pride, joy, and barely-contained emotion, while Kathleen laughed and beamed beside him. It is one of those images that will have the whole family in tears every time it comes out at a gathering, and we mean that in the very best way.
The second first look was with her bridesmaids, and the energy could not have been more different — though equally unforgettable. Kathleen descended the grand wooden staircase of the villa while her six bridesmaids waited below, and when they finally got a proper look at her in her gown, the reaction was instantaneous and absolutely priceless. Mouths dropped open. Hands flew to faces. One bridesmaid let out a full gasp, another clasped her hands together, and the collective joy in that room was so loud and so genuine that the photograph practically vibrates with it. It is one of our all-time favorite first-look reactions, full stop.
The bridal party portraits that followed in Round Hill's spectacular gardens were equally gorgeous — the seven women lined up in front of a lush wall of tropical foliage, palms and bougainvillea and birds of paradise bursting with color behind them, every one of them beaming. The contrast of those soft blue gowns against the vibrant greens and pinks of the gardens was just stunning.
For their ceremony, Kathleen and Patrick chose Sacred Heart Church — a beautiful, intimate Catholic church nestled in the lush Jamaican countryside near Round Hill. From the outside, the church is a charming structure with a steeply pitched roof, simple white walls, and a small religious statue standing serenely among the tropical trees and flowering shrubs. It is the kind of church that feels quietly sacred, tucked into the landscape as though it has always belonged there.
Inside, it is even more special. The wide-angle black-and-white photograph from the ceremony shows the full sweep of the interior — wooden pew-filled nave, exposed-beam ceiling with ceiling fans turning slowly in the warm air, and at the front, a breathtaking hand-painted mural above the altar depicting figures in heavenly clouds. Religious iconography lines the walls on both sides, and the whole scene has a deeply reverent, timeless quality. Kathleen and Patrick knelt together at the altar as the priest led them through their vows, their guests filling the pews around them, the whole congregation united in witness.
Choosing to marry in a local Jamaican church rather than on a resort lawn added a layer of meaning and authenticity to Kathleen and Patrick's day that we found genuinely moving. This was not simply a backdrop — this was a real place of worship, with its own history and its own spirit, and being invited to document a marriage celebrated within its walls was a true privilege.
The Recessional: A Saxophonist, Parasols, and Pure Joy
If the ceremony was the heart of the day, the recessional was its pulse — loud, joyful, and completely unforgettable.
As Kathleen and Patrick walked back through the doors of the reception building and descended the grand staircase into the open air, they were met by a scene that made everyone stop and grin from ear to ear. Their guests lined both sides of the steps holding an explosion of colorful mini parasols — purple, yellow, green, white — raised high in celebration. And leading the whole procession? A saxophonist, playing with incredible energy right at the base of the stairs, the music rolling out across the lawn and into the warm Jamaican afternoon.
The photograph of this moment is pure magic. Kathleen, bouquet raised triumphantly in one hand, her veil catching the breeze, laughing as she and Patrick descended into the celebration. Guests cheering, parasols waving, the iconic Round Hill main house — with its signature green-and-white striped awnings — framing everything behind them like a postcard. It is a photograph that makes you feel the music even though you cannot hear it, and it set the tone for the rest of the evening perfectly.
Before we move into the cocktail hour and reception, we want to take a moment to talk about Round Hill itself — because this property is something genuinely extraordinary, and Kathleen and Patrick's wedding showcased it at its absolute finest.
Founded in 1953 by a group of social figures that included Noel Coward, Round Hill sits on a 110-acre peninsula on the western tip of Jamaica near Montego Bay. It is one of the most storied and beloved resorts in the entire Caribbean — a place that combines old-world elegance with laid-back Jamaican warmth in a way that very few properties in the world can match. Its white-washed villas tumble down a hillside toward the sea. Its gardens are lush and wild and fragrant. Its main house, with those now-iconic green-and-white striped awnings, sits at the heart of the property with the kind of quiet grandeur that only decades of history can produce.
As a wedding venue, Round Hill is in a class entirely its own. Every corner of the property offers a different kind of beauty — the rocky grotto where Kathleen and Patrick posed for portraits amid volcanic stone and tropical vines, the clifftop terrace where the Caribbean stretches out to the horizon, the sweeping lawns where the cocktail hour unfolded beneath white paper lanterns hanging from an ancient spreading tree. For couples dreaming of a destination wedding that feels genuinely special rather than simply staged, Round Hill is the answer.
The cocktail hour setup at Round Hill was one of the most beautiful we have ever had the pleasure of photographing. Guests spilled out onto the terrace and lawn as the late afternoon light turned golden, gathering around white-linen-draped tables set with simple greenery centerpieces and pillar candles. A three-tiered white cake adorned with pink roses sat on its own table in the center of it all, glowing softly in the warm light.
But the star of the cocktail hour was undoubtedly the tree. A magnificent, wide-spreading sea grape tree at the edge of the terrace had been dressed with dozens of white paper lanterns of varying sizes, hanging from every branch and creating a canopy of soft, glowing orbs above the guests below. Through the tree's branches, the Caribbean Sea shimmered in the distance, the sky shifting from blue to pale gold as the sun made its way toward the horizon. It was genuinely one of the most romantic cocktail-hour settings we have ever seen, and the photographs from this portion of the evening could fill an entire gallery on their own.
The family portraits taken in the gardens during this time were equally joyful — a standout image shows Kathleen sandwiched between her parents as both of them lean in to kiss her on the cheek simultaneously, her sisters laughing and leaning in from either side. It is a photograph that radiates warmth and family love from every pixel, and it is one we know will be framed on a wall somewhere for decades to come.
Jamaica's sunsets are legendary, and on Kathleen and Patrick's wedding day the sky delivered something truly exceptional. As the cocktail hour wound down and the light shifted into that extraordinary final blaze before dark, we slipped away with the couple for a few precious minutes by the water — and the results were breathtaking.
The full-color sunset portrait is stunning: Kathleen and Patrick kissing at the edge of the sea wall, the Caribbean spread out behind them in deep jewel blues, and above it all a sky on fire — layered in bands of deep purple, burnt orange, and molten gold, with the sun itself just touching the horizon and casting a long golden path across the water. Kathleen's sleek white gown, her tropical protea and white rose bouquet, Patrick's navy suit — everything pops against that extraordinary backdrop. It is a portfolio image, full stop.
And then there is the silhouette. Shot through the palm trees with the couple backlit by that blazing sunset sky, the image reduces everything to its most essential elements — two people, the sea, and the light. No detail, just shape and feeling. It is the kind of photograph that transcends wedding photography entirely and becomes simply a great image, full of mood and emotion and the ineffable magic of being somewhere beautiful with someone you love. If we had to choose a single photograph to represent this entire wedding day, this would be it.
As darkness fell over the gardens and the sea, the celebration moved inside to the Hanover Room — Round Hill's elegant, climate-controlled event space that is perfectly designed for exactly this kind of evening. Airy and white with louvered windows, brass wall sconces, cathedral ceiling with exposed beams and ceiling fans, the Hanover Room has a plantation-era elegance that feels both grand and wonderfully intimate. It is worth noting that some couples choose to hold their entire ceremony in the Hanover Room as well, and it is easy to see why — it has a natural beauty and good energy that lends itself to meaningful moments of all kinds.
For Kathleen and Patrick, the Hanover Room was the setting for the first dance, and it was wonderful. The two of them gliding across the dark polished floor, Kathleen's gown catching the warm light, Patrick's hand at her back — and around them, their guests packed the edges of the room, phones raised and faces lit up, watching this couple they love begin their life together. The joy in the room was palpable, the kind of collective happiness that you can feel even in a photograph.
The party that followed was everything a great wedding reception should be — loud, colorful, and completely full of life. By the time the dancing was in full swing, the glow sticks and flower crowns had come out, and the room looked like a festival. One photograph captures the bride, a bridesmaid, and a groomsman mid-dance with their arms in the air and expressions of pure uninhibited joy on their faces — and the crowd stretching behind them, everyone equally delighted, equally present. The group photograph at the end of the evening, with every single guest packed into the Hanover Room wearing flower crowns and glow accessories, is a joyful, chaotic, completely perfect record of a room full of people who had the time of their lives.
And the cake cutting, set against the night garden with fairy lights cascading from the great tree above, was a beautiful, intimate moment amid all the celebration — Kathleen and Patrick leaning into each other, smiling down at the gorgeous white four-tiered cake dressed in pink roses, the night warm and soft around them.
